Boxes were packed, cars were full to the brim, rooms were ready; move-in day had finally arrived! The anticipation and excitement for what was set to be another successful Welcome Week was apparent, as we welcomed back our 12 returning residents and 4 new residents, eager to begin their St. Margaret’s College journey. After a long 3-month break, the College came alive when the laughter, enthusiasm, and high spirits of the residents were once again illuminating the halls.
Sunday was the official move-in day, where residents and their families were treated to a delightful two-course meal in the Arts Centre Foyer; nothing will ever beat the dessert we received! After fare-welling our families, we commenced the infamous icebreaker activities. This year’s most noteworthy activity was certainly one where the residents had to stick their head in a plate of whipped-cream and find chewing gum.
The remainder of the week was jam-packed with exciting activities; we escaped the clutches of a psychotic butcher in Strike Bowling’s ‘Exitus Room Escape’, enjoyed the array of shows at SeaWorld, experienced world-class dining at Bacchus’ High Tea, got our dose of vitamin ‘sea’ at Kings Beach, and our thrill-seekers thrived as we pushed ourselves to the limits on an adrenalin-pumping high-ropes course (needless to say, we were all extremely sore the next day!).
We finished the week with a cocktail party in the student lounge, as we appreciated the beautiful Brisbane city lights whilst being served delicious canapés. After a long week, the residents were enthusiastic for the year ahead; ambitious to begin the next chapter of their lives as a St. Margaret’s College resident.
